First, let’s address the elephant in the room. Yes, I said cardio. Fine, I'll talk about it. So, running, contrary to my initial thought of it being one of the worst exercises on the planet, may actually be alright. This epiphany came to me while spending a quiet evening in the gym debating what machine I’d be using, when in the corner of my eye I see it, the treadmill. What followed was me basically wheezing my way through a 45-minute sprint workout (if you know, you know) and coming out the other side feeling far more accomplished than I ever thought I would. So, like any “enemies to lovers romance”, I decided to see where this could go.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a true genre classic if there weren't some plot twists along the way. Mine came on day 52 when unfortunately, I got food poisoning. No ‘love triangle’ for me it seems. Instead, I was left completely demoralised. I had just spent the last 50-something days struggling through this challenge and with the finish line in sight, it all went wrong. Over the next couple of days I pretty much did nothing, I couldn’t even drink enough water to go on a walk during this heatwave.
So, where did this leave me? If you’re wondering, no, I haven't restarted the challenge. Because honestly, I didn’t want to. So, I’ve just tried to pick up as quickly as I could. My main goal in part 5 is to focus on more running. I want to incorporate at least three 5k runs into my weekly routine, spicing it up with some sprint and hill training sessions.
Now, for the age-old question: Is the challenge still worth it? Honestly, at this point I don’t know. The benefits of becoming fitter, both mentally and physically, is obviously amazing. However, this past week has taught me that there is a level of guilt surrounding not hitting your targets, in a way I really didn’t like. Despite being sick and physically unable to complete my tasks, the guilt made me feel worse about myself. Which means for the first time in any of my check-ins, the answer to this question is not a definite yes. Will I change my mind? Who knows.
And so, like most romance series, this story is ending on a cliff hanger. Luckily for you, there's only a 15 day wait for the ending. Hopefully I'll get my happily ever after.
