Walking through Japan can be one of the most beautiful experiences. Whether you’re there for a walking holiday or to visit some of the most iconic sights, you will definitely get your steps in. KAMAKURA!
Kamakura Buddha, located in the Kotoku-in temple.
Just an hour commute outside of Tokyo, it is a must see in Japan. Coincidentally, it was the highest step count of my trip, where I walked over 17,000 steps.
The first stop on my walking tour was the Kamakura Buddha also known as the Great Buddha or Daibutsu, located in the Kotoku-in temple. It is one of the most iconic statues in Japan, standing at around 13.35 meters tall and made entirely of bronze.
I then went to visit Hokokuji temple in the mountains of Kamakura, known for its breathtaking bamboo garden and statue of Gautama Buddha. Here you can enjoy a walk through the tranquil gardens, taking a bamboo trail that brings you to a tea house where you can purchase matcha tea.

On my way to visit Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, I walked through Komachi Street which is famous for its sweet treats, snacks and souvenirs. Packed with vendors and side streets leading to even more tasty discoveries, it's the perfect place to stop along the way.

Finally, at my last destination, Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, I enjoyed the sunset and walked around its grounds. As one of the most important Shinto shrines in Kamakura, its grounds serve as a venue for festivals and is the cultural epicenter.
After a long day of walking, I can 100% say my Green Steps ONE trainers held up amazingly. Not one blister in sight! If you do find yourself in Tokyo, I really recommend taking the time to visit Kamakura, it is the perfect day trip to reset and appreciate nature.
